    CLOSE-UP

A close-up view of Sagarmatha's summit accented by sunset hues.

    AMONGST GIANTS

Sweet sunset illuminates the top of Sagarmatha (Chomolungma in Tibetan), rising between smaller cousins Changtse (left, 7,543m) and Nuptse (right, 7,861m). Just below Everest is the head of the Khumbu Glacier -- the Khumbu Icefall, a treacherous network of moving seracs and crevasses those aiming to test their mettle on the world's highest mountain must navigate. The base camp is situated near the glacier. Imaged from Kala Patthar (5,545m).

  • LHOTSE LIGHTING

    LHOTSE LIGHTING

The 4th highest mountain in the world at 8,516m, Lhotse lights up in sunset hues in this scenic sight from Dingboche. The name "Lhotse" means "South Peak" in Tibetan, possibly due to the fact that it is located south of Everest, connecting to the latter via the South Col.

  • FIRE AND ICE

    FIRE AND ICE

In a spectacle locals are fortunate enough to witness on a regular basis, intense light from the receding sun set ablaze the ice and snow-covered faces of the imposing Himalayan massif northeast of Dingboche.

  • While on our way home from Visita Iglesia last Holy Thursday, we saw the sun unrealistically big setting down the horizon. We stopped for a while and took some photos. In just over a minute, the sun was already invisible from the horizon.

GOLDEN KISS. The setting sun gives a golden kiss to coconut trees on a town in Laguna before finally disappearing from the horizon. Observed from Sta. Cruz, Laguna

The small bluish specks at the bottom are lights coming from a house.
